Texas-born and -raised bandleader, singer/songwriter, classically trained pianist, and composer Edward “Tex” Miller attempts to combine a love of a multitude of musical genres—from ambient techno, to bebop, to Impressionist music of the early twentieth century—in presenting an altogether compelling, personal, and individual musical voice. After venturing off to Columbia University in New York City, where he expanded the scope of his musical interests and knowledge by performing in the school jazz ensemble, playing solo shows throughout the city, and spending several years with funk quartet Bump City, he made the jump to Los Angeles, where he founded his own jazz/pop trio by the name of Layabout, recorded two albums and an EP, and toured both domestically and abroad. It was around this time that his longtime love for film began to converge with his love for music. Over the last several years, the variety of work experiences he has been able to enjoy—from scoring (and receiving film-festival awards for) dramatic and comedic short films and features; to designing music beds for the website of a prominent fashion publication; to being hired to create a custom library for reality-TV stalwart Bunim/Murray—only further reinforces Miller’s love of writing for film and television, while solidifying his desire to continue pursuing this type of wonderfully creative and inspiring work in the years ahead.
